I am Yvonne Ellsworth and I am the proud owner of LavenderSheep yarns! I originally came up with the idea for this show because I had a booth at the Abernethy Spring Sale in Oregon City. A show that was canceled in 2010 because the organizer, Julie Owens, passed away suddenly in the fall of 2009. It was very unfortunate, not only for her family but for the knitting community at large. I asked around to see if anyone was going to organize the show and nobody seemed to have any answers. At the same time I was pregnant with my first born and my due date was eerily close to that of the Abernethy Show. I knew I couldn't organize the show myself for 2010.

I started to think about what it would take to start a show and how cool would it be if there was one closer to home here in the gorge. We have a fairly large textile community here. Part of it even started with my grandmother who was a founding member of the Grace Carter Weavers which founded the Columbia Fibers Guild. They are members of ANWG, WeGO, and NwRSA. The other part of it is made up from new knitters taught by the wonderful local yarn shop Knot Another Hat. The more I thought about it the more I was amazed that we didn't already have a fiber festival in the area.

Carefully, the pieces all came together to creat this fiber festival. It now has a home at the Hood River Inn-Best Western and a yearly date of the third weekend in April. It coincides with Blossom Festival, where the pear trees are slowly turning from pale skeletons to snowy blossoms and leaves.

I learn a lot every year and put those ideas into the next one! I work with such great people, so I know it will get better and better each year!
